HP Officejet Pro 8620
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I frequently use my HP 8620 for scanning to .pdf.  When I first power on my computer or restart, my printer/scanner is connected and I can scan either thru USB  or network.  However, after a short period of time (10-15 min) of not using, the scanner loses connectivity to the computer.  I receive a message on my computer that connection to the computer is lost, scan is currently in progress or OCR not set up on computer.

I have run Print Doctor, I have updated firmware, I have deleted and readded network, I have turned off printer and computer and gone through all the re-power steps as suggested inprevious forums.  The restarts work temporarily, but I lose connection after a short period of inactivity and have to power down and start process all over again.

I can scan using Windows 10 scanner, however that is not ideal as documents are saved .jpg and documents in document feeder are saved 1 document per page.  However, if I can scan from Windows 10 app and computer and printer are talking to each other, I don't understand why I cannot scan from HP printer to computer?

Your help at troubleshooting is much appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

How to Scan to Computer

Once you have installed the FULL software:

1. Click on the printer Icon (on your desktop) and it will bring up the HP Printer Assistant.
2. Under the Scan menu, there is a “Manage Scan to Computer”, click on that.
3. Make sure that you “Enable” Scan to Computer. Also make sure the tab “Automatically start Scan to Computer when I log on to Windows” is checked if you want to make this feature permanent. (the following video will show you how)

How to use "Scan to Computer" properly

If you have not installed the FULL feature software, this resource will be useful;

The following resource will help you :

Key in your printer model, Operating System and download & install the FULL feature software.

Hope that helps.
