B110 cannot use Solution Centre or Scan please help !

Hi,
I've been using my HP Photosmart B110 since September on my same computer without problem. Over the last two weeks when trying to scan documents i'm having intermittent problems with accessing and using the HP solution centre icon. I cannot scan from the scanner alone either.
When opening the HP solution centre i instantly get a pop up saying "this application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way". On getting rid of that, i then just get a box telling me that hpqdirec.exe has stopped working and the system is looking for a solution. Then get another message saying no solution could be found and that it is shutting down and a solution will be sent when one is available!
I work from home and rely on my scanner so need to fix this asap. I have downloaded and reinstalled the softward about 10 times. Sometimes it works but then when using it again i get the same thing. There have been no changes to my operating system which is windows 7 and as far as i know, nothing has changed anywhere else in any way.
Please please can someone help me !!!
