C3180 Fails to save a document scan to a pdf file

Is anyone able to do this?  I have uninstalled and reinstalled and applied patches and HP Solution Center does everything but this.

Re: C3180 Fails to save a document scan to a pdf file

I have learned that HP designed the application to work with Adobe Reader 7.   Adobe had security issues in version 7 and over time they released major updates as version 8.  So now we are stuck between a rock and a hard place.  We don't want to use a product with security issues and HP has not found a solution that works with version 8.  My guess is that Adobe closed the hole which let HP use their product without "permission."  Although the PDF format is no lomnger proprietary it still requires an application to create the pdf file.  HP knows the problem and is not addressing it.

Re: C3180 Fails to save a document scan to a pdf file

TBH, the software does not require the Adobe Reader to scan into PDF's. All that's required is the OCR software that is usually installed along with the full software. On a couple of occasions, I've scanned to PDF while the computer didn't have Adobe Reader installed at all. And the scan came out fine. So I don't think Adobe Reader is the problem. Are you using the latest software?

Re: C3180 Fails to save a document scan to a pdf file

I have the same problem with a C5180 that developed just recently--within the last 4 weeks.  I can scan and save to all file types except pdf and pdf-searchable.  I get 2 error messages after attempting a save to pdf.  The first says "Destination Component has encountered a problem and needs to close."  The second says:

"An internal error has occurred while processing the document.  Try one of the following

---restart the program

---restart the PC and try again

---Reinstall the Photo & Imaging Software and try again"

I have uninstalled all the HP imaging software I can find (including the OCR software) through the Add or Remove Programs window on the Control Panel and reinstalled from the HP provided cd.  I have downloaded the most current Adobe software (9.0) and flash player.  Nothing has corrected the problem.

My OS is Windows XP.  Any help would get a big KUDOS.

Don't waste your time trying to fix this.  HP knows it cannot output a PDF file in the scanner application.

I don't agree.  There has to be a fix because for the last three years I have owned this C5180 and up until about 3-4 weeks ago, I was able to scan and save to pdf.  Something has been corrupted and it is a matter of find what.
