I bought an 8500 wireless to replace my four year old 7410 that froze up on me (yes I tried disconnecting the wireless card and rebooting no luck). HP had given this printer to me after a long oddessy ( 120 manhours which included filing Better Business Bureau complaints aginst HP in 3 cities) getting drivers to work on a previous version I think it was a 5410. Anyway, I have no Idea why I thought I'd give HP a try again...other than I bought an M9000 from HP running 32bit Vista and have been reasonaably pleased with it (after I purcahsed a program that identified and updated all the hardware drivers.
)...
The new 8500 will print from Word and Excel but I can't scan from it. The Solutions Center says it's not coneected to the network, although I can check network settings in Solutions Center and find it. I've tried turning firewalls on and off and I've reloaded the software twice.. I've entered the IP address in the advanced network search address.....and I refuse to get into it with the bozos in India...I did that last time and they strung me along for weeks. I'm taking this piece of junk back to Costco and Getting a Brother, I've had it with HP.

Did you ever get a solution to the "HP Solution Center cannot run because your device installation is not complete"? I have reinstalled the 13.0 driver 5 time now and after a few days it keeps getting this message.

Firstly I agree with Brian99 - I too have had it with HP. If you read reviews in magazines such as Which by the Consumers Association you will note that that there are many other BETTER manufacturers of printers - my next printer will be a Canon. HP's product is substandard and so is the support.
Now to answer your question - no I did not get anywhere with my problem (I am on XP). So I uninstalled absolutely everything to do with the printer, wired it up to my PC (i.e. no longer wireless which is a shame), reinstalled the software and now I have full functionality. It is for reasons such as these that I want to move away from HP. However, are the other guys better at providing service? I doubt it...
