Deskjet F4280 scanner not working. Shows and prints one side of pages totally black.

Asus G53J laptop running Windows 7 64-bit. All Windows and HP updates installed, Prints alright but won't scan properly. Diagnostic utility says drivers, WIA, etc. are all okay. Solution Centre says to download update. Tired several times to install but says it is not needed. Scans then prints one half of page totally black.

HI,

Printing a half page black is a sympthom of a defect somewhere in the scanner module. Most likely the scanner light or the scanner chip.

Thanks for the reply. I take it that this is a hardware problem that would require taking the printer in for repairs, so probably not worth spending any more time on?
