Entering a Scan Destination Folder for C5180

Using Windows Vista 32-bit my scanner suddenly stopped working.  The diagnostic utility says there is no longer a destination folder for the scans, and checking the printer setup shows this is true.  How to I enter a destination folder?  The drop-down dialogue box for selecting the destination folder doesn't allow manual entry, it only allows you to choose from a selection of destinations.  My problem is it is empty.   It seems to me there should be a setup program that enters the required folder.

I'm using IE8.

Re: Entering a Scan Destination Folder for C5180

I have the same problem.  C5180 All in One, Vista 32bit.  I can scan from Windows Photo Gallery.

Additionally, I get an 'internal error' message after clicking on the Scan Document button within HP Solution Center.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Full Feature driver download.  But.... it still does not work.

Hello FixThisDad

Have you tried to run the HP Scan Diagnostic Utility yet? Also if you could a screenshot of the "internal error" you receive would be helpful. Were you receiving the Scan Destination error?

Re: Entering a Scan Destination Folder for C5180

Hello FixThisDad

Based on your screenshots the software may need to be scrubbed. This will remove all HP printer software that may be causing the problem and re-install everything as if it was the first time setting up the printer.

From Original installation CD:

1. Insert CD into drive, and then cancel the installer

2. Open My Computer, and then right click on the CD drive and chose open

3. Open folder Util

4. Open folder CCC

5. Run the L4uninstall.bat

6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer

7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools

8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

9. Download the full feature software and drivers

Photosmart C5180 Software

10. Run the download to reinstall the printer

If software was downloaded and extracted to your system:

1. Type %temp% in the run field

2. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)

3. Open folder Util

4. Open folder CCC

5. Run the L4uninstall.bat

6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer

7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools

8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

9. Download the full feature software and drivers

Photosmart C5180 Software

10. Run the download to reinstall the printer

Re: Entering a Scan Destination Folder for C5180

I followed your above instructions carefully.  All went as expected.  Until the step to install the current Adobe Flash.  First I installed from IE9 (which was successful); second from Firefox13,  which did not complete as expected, and left an entry in task manager (which I discovered after the final install of the C5180 Full Feature driver failed. :-(    Flash Problem for Firefox Plugin.jpg

The below was the first thing that came up.  I selected the 'recommended' option ...

HP Device Driver result.jpg

Then Windows tried to find the drivers and recommended the manufacturer's website. Go to HP for Driver.jpg

Which took me to the below:

Driver Search Result.jpg

Below is the result of the install dialogue.

2012Jun30 0135 Failed Install no driver.jpg

Finally, I executed the HP Scan and Printer test.  The first time, it did not find my C5180 AIO, even though it was powered on and USB connected.   I followed the instructions in the window, (powered of and powered on again then 'RETRY'. The result of that was 'the first thing that came up' my second image above.  And now I am in a 'loop'.

Thank you for your attention.  I still need help. What do you suggest now?

Re: Entering a Scan Destination Folder for C5180

Hello FixThisDad

Thank you for all the screenshots they are very well taken and easy to follow.

Have you tried using a different USB? Make sure you aren't using a USB hub. Also make sure the printer is plugged directly into a Wall Socket rather than a Surge Protector.

Do you have any other computer you can test the printer on? This will isolate the problem to either the printer or the computer.
