Estimated Availability of Win7 driver for ScanJet G 4010/4050 scanners

Just purchased a new Scanjet G4010 scanner and find I cannot load either the setup driver disk or accessory tools program disk; included disks will not run with Win 7.  Much searching revealed that HP has yet to offer a Win 7 driver for this scanner. Anyone with an idea when this driver may be available, or any successful end run options? Seems inexcusable that drivers are unavailable for a current selling model, nearly two months after intro of Win 7. Thanks!

Join the crowd Bro!  I have a HP computer with XP Pro OS.  Bought a new HP computer (07/2009) with Vista OS installed.  My Scanjet 2200C was not compatible with Vista.  Oh well, old technology so they say.  Bought a new Scanjet G4010 (08/2009) worked great with Vista.  Upgraded to Windows 7 after October release.  According to Microsoft and HP, Scanjet G4010 was compatible with Windows 7.  The software, HP Solution Center and Photosmart Essential does not recognize the G4010 Scanjet.  I can only manually scan photos.  I called HP Support and they said after checking my Scanjet G4010 was out of warranty and it would cost me $25.00 to fix the problem. [text removed]  I will never buy another HP product!  Anyone interested in  two HP Scantest?  They work great as boat anchors.

Re Scanjet G4010 Vista compatibility

I have just purchased HO Scanjet G4010 (have Sony Vaio laptop running Vista).  I was concerned regarding compatibility as had read on line reviews after purchasing stating this model was not  Vista compatible.

I was delighted to see you report  'great with Vista'.  Did you have to download additional software or drivers from HP?

Are you getting full functionality with Vista?

Do you have any tips on how to achieve great results before I remove mine from its box, purchased last week.

I was considering taking it back before I read your comments below

Many thanks

Re: Estimated Availability of Win7 driver for ScanJet G 4010/4050 scanners

My Scanjet G4010 included two scanning software (CD's).   The 8.3 version for Windows 2000, XP and XP Media.  The 9.0 version for Vista 32 and 64-bit.  It was fully functional with Vista and the programs are easy to use.  I had to install the G4010 scanner on my backup computer that runs XP Pro OS to get it to work correctly.  As far as tips go......I was going to purchase a new HP printer to match the scanners resolution, but with HP's lack of product support or wanting to charge a fee for it....... I do not expect to purchase any more HP products.

This page indicates there are drivers available for both the G4010 and G4050 through Windows Update.  Have you enabled Windows Update and installed the supplied drivers?

Re: Estimated Availability of Win7 driver for ScanJet G 4010/4050 scanners

I've searched both the HP driver dowload site and the Windows Update pages, to no avail!  As others on this blog and other tech blogs have related, drivers do not appear available for HP scanners -  despite what HP says.  Where the____ are they?

On the shelf HP products are being sold with no readily/easily  available access to the necessary Win 7 drivers!  I, and others are ready to take our HP scanner products back to the resellers for refunds or exchanges because of no Win 7 compatibility!

Re: Estimated Availability of Win7 driver for ScanJet G 4010/4050 scanners

Bob, also on this page http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c01909569 HP indicates that the driver is there, or soon will be there. But look on this page: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=se&prodNameId=3236365&...

and try to download the driver. NOTHING!!

I think we poor customers have the right to know when we will get a product that works.

The drivers are not available today, if you want to know when they are available then sign up for notification as indicated in the previous post.  I do not have any information on when the drivers will be released and I do not speak for or work for HP.

Re: Estimated Availability of Win7 driver for ScanJet G 4010/4050 scanners

Here's a solution for downloading the necessary drivers and supporting softward for a HP Scanjet G4010 scanner, from HP Support staff!! :

In order to troubleshoot this issue, I suggest that we can try installing the vista compatible software in compatibility mode.

Please visit the URL given below to download the software for your scanner:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software8/COL17370/sj-50004-1/setup_full_G4000.exe

Please follow the given steps to install the software:
1. Click on the link and then on “Download” tab
2. Now a small download window will open, please select “save” and select the destination as “Desktop”. Now the software will get downloaded in your system.
3. Please right-click on the file and select properties.
4. Now select 'compatibility' tab
5. Now check mark on 'Run this program in compatibility mode for' and select windows Vista from the drop down list
6. Then click on 'Apply and OK'.

Please try installing the software now by double clicking on the downloaded file and check if it works.

Michael, please e-mail back if you need further clarification or do let us know if the issue gets resolved and we will be glad to assist you.

Once again, thank you for contacting Hewlett-Packard's Commercial Solutions Center.

Hope this helps others, as it did me!

Re: Estimated Availability of Win7 driver for ScanJet G 4010/4050 scanners

I got help from the HP helpdesk with a work-around for the problem in the driver SW.

Sorry to say that the work-around did NOT work on my PC. When scanning 10-15 pictures I got the error message Runtime Error in file hpqscnvw.exe.

When trying to reinstall the software, the PC refused to do that. It is very difficult to uninstall all the files loaded. I suspect that some for me unknown registers are set in way that makes the computer to refuse a new installation.

Now I have reinstalled Windows 7, and am waiting for an official Windows 7 compatible version of the scanner software.

So, I do not belive anymore in installing that old Vista compatible version!
