Fax send Failed

I have an HP Officejet 5610xi All-in-One printer.  Sometimes, not all the time,  I get a "Fax send Failed" while I'm faxing.  Why is this happening? Is anything being faxed.  The people receiving the faxes are getting some pages.  How do I know what they have received?
