I had the typical "no scan" and "HP solution Center" failures as many others did. I had tried many of the remedies suggested on these board with no luck. I was ready to throw my new printer in the trash.
(new) HP wireless Photosmart C4795, Windows 7 Home Premium, 32-bit, Home Network, Dell E510
Finally, in desperation and with no hope, I tried the often badmouthed and lowly uninstall/reinstall method. This actually worked for me. BUT I used a very aggressive uninstaller that after uninstalling in a normal fashion would do a second deep search of the hard drive to to find any remaining HP junk that had been associated with that uninstall and could be "safely?" deleted.
The uninstaller found about 10 normal HP files that I uninstalled one at a time. In addition, it also found over 1,000 associated pieces of HP junk! Amazing! This was HP junk that would have remained on the hard drive after a normal uninstall. With great fear and trepidation, I deleted every thing that the uninstaller had identified as HP junk. I had no problems at all. YMMV be careful!
Then I rebooted and installed the appropriate software for my printer, program/drivers that I had downloaded from HP (this web site). It went so smooth! A great burden lifted from my ooh so frustrated shoulders.
"When" you finally get your printer working properly, I think you will be very pleased. The "HP Solution Center" is great!
I had a previous HP printer on this same computer which I had uninstalled normally. It was mentioned on the boards that left over HP junk may be causing problems with new HP printer installs. That is why I went with an aggressive uninstaller. Did it help? I don't know. But the printer works fine now. The uninstaller I used was "Revo Uninstaller" freeware that I downloaded from download.com (CNET). Read everything about it before using!
My words, Caution "Revo uninstaller" has not been completely tested for windows 7 and it does not support Vista 64-bit. You might want to email the web site to ask for more info. Read everything about it before using!
Are there other aggressive uninstallers?

Would CCleaner do the same thing after uninstalling with Windwos Add/Remove?

Hi aras,
no, I don't think ccleaner would do the same thing. I use ccleaner regularly and don't recall it ever finding so many bits and pieces of an uninstalled program as revo did. It may be that revo needs to do the initial uninstall allowing it to trace out all the locations of the leftover junk related to the uninstall?
I also use Glary Utilities and don't think it would do the deep cleanup either, for the same reasons.
It seems that it works using "revo" to uninstall the program and locate associated junk at the same time. At the end of the procedure the junk is marked for you to delete if you want to. I deleted all that was marked (over 1,000 pieces of junk!). I had no problems. But I was very nervous when I hit that delete button!![]()
Good Luck! chap
