Re: HP 6500 Wireless does not scan

Hi berbah,

Try disabling the AVG anti-virus software. Let me know if you are able to scan with this software disabled?

PCWizard,

Disabling the AVG makes no difference.

Thanks.

Re: HP 6500 Wireless does not scan

Hi berbah,

Can you make a copy from the printer standalone?

Are you able to scan using Microsoft Paint?

Do you have the same issue on another computer?

Reply to PCWizard:

Recall my details:

-Printer:  HP OfficeJet 6500 E709a

-PC:  Win 7 Professional 64-bit,  SP1, Intel Core i5 750 CPU, 8 MB RAM

I have run through all of your instructionsYET AGAIN (3rd time)

-Steps to remove the HP software - Non HP computers.doc

I STILL CANNOT SCAN MORE THAN PART OF A DOCUMENT.
First attempt launching scan throuh HP Solution Center = scanned 3/4 of page, then hung...became unresponsive.
Second attempt launching scan through HP Document Manager = scanned 1.5 pages through the document feeder, but the scanning stopped 1/2 way through page 2 and the software just hung...became unresponsive.
Technical details when error issued 1st time: 8, [(4,0,-2147023170)].
**Note:  I could not execute the last step on the WIA fix b/c I cannot find a download for a new "twain_32.dll" file on HP website.  Where am I supposed to get this newest file?
I see TONS of similar complaints about this issue occurring across many HP AOI printers.  Why can't HP locate the problem and issue a permanent fix???!!!!

Re: HP 6500 E709a STILL will not scan - CONT'D

Hi kji216,

It appears that you may actually have a hardware failure with the printer.

Can you make a copy without having it stop?

What happens if you install it on a different computer?

Re: HP 6500 E709a STILL will not scan - CONT'D

PC Wizard:

I can make a copy just fine, and the printer works fine.

I really think the problem is a software issue.

Where can I get the latest TWAIN file mentioned in your WIA fix?  I will try this and if it still doesn't work, I will hook it up to my laptop and see if scanning works there.

Hi kji216,

You don't need to do the steps for the WIA. If you are able to start the scan then this indicates the WIA services are working properly. Let me know what you find out when you install it to your laptop?

Re: HP 6500 E709a STILL will not scan - CONT'D

PC Wizard:

In a last-ditch effort, I re-ran HP Scan Utility (v4.2.0.005 7_2_11).

The diagnostics failed at the "HP Solution Center" test, utility advised me to download and install the "Scan Destination" update/fix (released 2/19/2011), which I did.

After restart, and much to my surprise, I was able to scan (FULLY) 8 pages from the glass & save them as PDF files.

So, now I know that my HP OfficeJet 6500 E709a is capable of scanning full pages!

However, after the initial scans, I tried to scan a document via document feeder and save it as a single , searchable PDF.  This request prompted the same failure as before--the scan starts, does part of the page, and then the software hangs & is unresponsive.

Do you think it might have something to do with the OCR software that is part of the HP v13 installation?

Re: HP 6500 E709a STILL will not scan - CONT'D

Hi kji216,

Can you still scan ok from the glass?

The OCR should not cause this issue. You may have something in the operating system which is contributing to this failure.

Re: HP 6500 E709a STILL will not scan - CONT'D

Yes,  I can still scan ok from the glass.

From the glass, I tested:

-saving as PDF = just fine

-saving as searchable PDF = just fine.

BUT, when attempt to scan a multi-page document from the document feeder (and just as a regular PDF this time), it will scan the 1st page just fine, and then just stops mid-page on the 2nd page.  The ADF will slowly push the 2nd page through (like it's scanning), but the scan preview never completes.  From there, the software just hangs...can't quit unless force quit through windows.  (but printer still reads, "document loaded" like it's still ready to go with more pages).
