Wilhouse,
It is unfortunate when a company thinks customer issues do no matter. I would not consider a discounted upgrade as the problem is an HP problem. The issue occured right after an HP update, having nothing to do with Microsoft. If they would take the time to listen to their customers they would see that the issue spans not just several models of their product line but it also spans operating systems. There are complaints on this forum from both Windows users and MAC. Unfortunately HP has lost sight of what made them a great company and they may now be headed down the path of self destruction.

Wilhouse,
I suggest you and everyone else that is having an issue and running into the same brickwall of resistance that you and I have hit, go to Facebook and post on HP's wall and maybe, just maybe, social media pressure may help get a resolution to this problem.

Hi Miata09 & wilhouse,
Have you tried the scrub steps I provided on page 3?
Does the scan diagnostic utility give you the option to fix the issues?
Try using the scrubber built into the CD or Download.
From Original installation CD:
1. Insert CD into drive, and then cancel the installer
2. Open My Computer, and then right click on the CD drive and chose open
3. Open folder Util
4. Open folder CCC
5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe
6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
7. Download Full Feature software and drivers from following link.
8. Reinstall printer using the downloaded driver
If software was downloaded and extracted to your system:
1. Type %temp% in the run field
2. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
3. Open folder Util
4. Open folder CCC
5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe
6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
7. Download Full Feature software and drivers from following link.
8. Reinstall printer using the downloaded driver

Hi wilhouse,
Do you have the same issue when you have the printer connected USB or Ethernet to your router?
I have the same printer installed on my Win 7 64-Bit wirelessly, and I don't have this issue. Have you tried installing the printer on a different computer running Win 7 64-Bit?

I just got the 6500A Plus and cannot set up the scanner either. I started looking in this thread, and some others for some fixes, and I don't think I want to even start trying what you all have been trying if nothing's working and there's a known issue.
Let's go, HP! Start earning those ink refill dollars! What's the workaround?

The 6500a is a different model and uses a different version of software then the others in this post. Run the following utility at the link, and let me know what you find out?

I did an uninstall using HP's special uninstall utility, cleaned the registry, rebooted my system did a search and made sure there was nothing remaining on my system from HP. I then did the install USB connected, same problem. I went through the entire cleaning process again did the install as a wireless connection same problem. This system was functioning flawlessly until the last HP update. I have downloaded every file from HP's site as I am running Win7 Ultimate. I have two laptops different brands, both have the problem both occured right after the HP update and as a side note there was no Microsoft update at that time. I have two netbooks neither of which have had the HP update run on them they both function flawlessly and they have had Microsoft updates run since the HP update. The problem is obviously from the HP update and it obviously changed something at the OS level that does not get removed when you do an uninstall even using their special uninnstall utility. From this forum it is also clear that this problem is OS neutral and hardware neutral. The problem affects several models of the HP printer/scanner line. I don't understand why HP WON'T accept responsibility and fix the problem. I went on their product service facebook page posted a comment and it was immediately removed. I will be checking the ads today for a replacement product and unfortunately it won't be an HP because I can't feel confident that this problem won't occur again.
