Thank you for taking the time to attempt to resolve this issue. If you are able to do so I will gladly continue to use my HP product.

Hi wilhouse & Miata09,
I can understand your frustrations, and wanting to get this fixed. I have installed the update from your link, and I am not having the same problem. My printer (Officejet 6500 E709N) still scans fine from Solution Center. I turned the printer on & off and tested it again with no issues. One thing I noticed is that I am still running version 13. Follow the steps below to scrub the HP software and install version 13. Let me know what you find out?
1. Type %temp% in the run field
2. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
3. Open folder Util
4. Open folder CCC
5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe
6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
Run Scrub a second time:
7. Type %temp% in the run field
8. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
9. Open folder Util
10. Open folder CCC
11. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe
12. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
13. Run Disk Cleanup from the systems tools folder.
14. Download and run CCleaner tool. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
15. Restart your computer
16. Download and install version 13 full feature software and driver from the following link. http://www.4shared.com/folder/NsDAU6RP/_online.htm

PCWizard, I will check this right away. I asked my case manager if she could find me the previous version of the software and she couldn't. Thank you for at least trying.

PCWizard, I wish I could give you good news but I can't.
I did exactly as you directed. Scrubbed twice, used ccleaner (which I've used before and I like). No trouble dl the version 13 software.
Installed and got the same error. Now I pretty much installed all the software (not the shop manager or customer experience dl), but everything else.
I appreciate your trying.

I just started having the same problem. It started in the last couple weeks. I was able to scan around Christmas time, but not now. I was able to scan for over a year with no problems. I get the same kind of errors others have mentioned in the posts.
I have the 6500A E710n connected via USB only... no wireless at all.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. I have downloaded and installed the latest driver and that didn't help.
I get the WIA error in the Scan Diagnostic Utility, with no offer from the utility to uninstall or do anything.
Oddly, sometimes it will scan the first few lines of the document and then stop and then the scan cancels itself.
I am able to scan without any problems using Windows Fax and Scan, but of course you can't scan to a PDF or text file with it... only to .JPG, .TIF etc and that doesn't do me any good.
Since Windows Fax and Scan and WinScan2PDF can scan without problems, it really seems to be an HP software or driver problem.
Help!

I also wish I could give you better news. I followed your steps to the letter and like willhouse I still have the error message. I know exactly when my issue started as I was ready to scan a contract on a new listing when I received the pop up for an HP update. I ran the update and that was the end of my ability to scan. I was using version 14 not 13 and was hoping that reverting to ver 13 would correct the problem. Unfortunately it did not. since I require the ability to scan for my real estate business I have no choice but to purchase another unit and I can't take the chance on HP given the current issue remains unresolved.

So, I guess the question is... what was the recent update that got installed on our computers from HP and how do we uninstall it?

Hi wilhouse & Miata09,
Try running the clean up tools several times, and then attempt to install the version 13 software. I can tell you that the update is not the issue. I am using version 13 with the update installed without a problem. At this point you may want to consider backing up your data, and then run a system restore on your computer. When the restore is finished use the version 13 software to install the printer. Let me know if this is an option you are willing to try?
I will attempt to reproduce the issue on my system using version 14.
