HP 8500 scanning software problem

Windows XP with new 8500.  When I scan from feeder tray to Computer in PDF normal, using HP solution center software the scan comes out 35 X 45 inches and not 8.5 X 11.  This is even after I make sure the size is correct in the scan window before hitting finish.  If I use HP Document manager then scan new document tab, I can succesful scan in 8.5 X 11.

Anyone know how to tell HP so they can get this fixed in new update?

Thank goodness someone one else has confirmed this HP software scanning bug - I have rung HP support numerous times and emailed their support about 10 times and the dumbos still haven't even accepted the problem exists let alone do anything

I am using a new HP All in one printer scanner - model C309A and it uses the solution center version 12.0.26.58

This version overwrites earlier versions that work properly and consequently all older previously installed HP scanners will use the new software and as you say causes the "scan to an image file" to change the paper size by a factor of 4 if scanning at the default of 300 DPI

Here is a copy of the problem as sent to HP

Here are the two scanned pdf files using the scan to document in black and white at scan resolution of 300 dpi - and A4 is the original size

One from using the 309A printer - file name "scan from 309A BW.pdf" which has Solution Centre version 120.0.26.58
and the second from a 5610 printer - file name "scan from 5610 BW.pdf" which has Solution Centre version 70.0.128.000

The new printer 309A using solution centre version 12 increases the page size from A4 to a paper size of 4.166 times the original - see image properties in adobe acrobat at 900mm by 1237mm - it changes the size by a factor of 300/72 = 4.166 - if you scan at any other resolution it changes the size proportionally by a mutiplying factor of the scan resolution divided by 72

The old 5610 scan keeps the same image size of 296mm x 297mm irrespective of scan resolution

This problem occurs in both the pdf and jpg image format

The solution 12 once installed overwrites the 5610 software so the 5610 then produces the same problems of change in file paper size

I have reinstalled the 309A using software from the HP site instead of the CD and the problem remains

So the new printer is of no use to me in its present state as it is a network printer intended for multiple use

Please confirm this is a software problem - but the point is the new software stops the other older HP scanner from working too

Have you tried uninstalling the 8500 software and installing the 5610 software? Someone on another post said that HP told him to install the older software and it should work.

I found a way to get Letter size when scanning; it isn't ideal, but it works. After selecting Scan Document, you will see Scan Type and under that is Advanced Document Settings. Click on that and then check Automatically crop scanned documents. Good luck!
