HP 8500A Plus when printing and scanning black line is printed on copy or scan from top to bottom

Open the automated document feeder on top and clean it, lines on the scans and copy's are ussualy some dirt somewhere in the scanner.

I have that problem described above ... vertical line while copying or scanning though not when printing.  When you say "clean the feeder", can you be a lot more specific?  What am I looking for on what piece?  Assume I'm not very astute on the names of printer parts, thanks.

Hi, THIS document might help in cleaning. Its a document to help in cleaning out paper jams in the adf but has nice pictures of the inside of the adf. Clean all parts in there but specificly any glass or white parts.
