HP 8600 Plus Cannot scan Get error "Scanner Unreachable" even w/ESET firewall disabled.

I have checked several posts. Can print to the 8600 but not scan.

1. ESET Diasbled,

2. Uninstalled and reinstalled software

3. Ran HP Scan Diagnostic and indicaiton is WIA and TWAIN will not connect.

4. The WIA, RPC and Shell Services are all running

Any ideas?

Same problem here. After reinstallation of all software, I get the message that my printer is set up. I can print the test message. When I try to scan to computer, I get a message that my 8600 cannot be found!

We are trying to track down WIA issues such as this.   If you feel comfortable, would both of you be so kind as to do a registry export of the following registry location (it's the WIA/StillImage devices instances key):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}

Just open "RegEdit", navigate to this key, right click on it and select "Export".    ZIP this up and either email it to me or post to this forum.   I can't guarantee that I will be able to figure it out from this, but it can't hurt

I seached the registry for the entry "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}" as well as the "WIA/Stillimage" and could not find an entry.

Any other thoughts?

Wow, really?   This is the default Microsoft key for still imaging devices since Windows XP.

To confirm, if you navigate in RegEdit to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class, you should see quite a long list of GUIDs listed.   There should only be one that starts with {6bdd1fc6...} .. is that not there on your system?   If not, this would definitely be a problem for any scan device working on your system, and would indicate that something has corrupted your registry and/or OS install.

Can you double check Device Manager as well, and see if you have an "Imaging Device" category?  Are there any devices listed there?

OK...I spoke with a lady and she had me uninstall all my 8600 installation software. She then had me insure that the software was completely deleted thru the control panel. Finally she had me check for any other HP sofware from previous printer installations. The new software should do this, but sometimes will miss a program. I then rebooted.

Then she had me go to the HP web site, and download the installation software fresh. She waited with me through the whole process. Finally I had to reboot again...and VIOLA it worked!!

I however am still having a problem and since between my home and work I have other HP printers 4100, 1320, 8500 series printers I cannot uninstall them but still expect my 8600 to work.

Any other thoughts?

i am able to scan when there is a network, but if I go to my work and use the usb cable, it will not scan and the printer says it does not see a computer. By the way my computer is an hp.... you would think that they would play nice with each other. I have literally spent over 10 hours of uninstalling and installing and the hp scan doctor. I am extremely frustrated. Can you please help?
