Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I have an HP Envy 5530 All in one printer that has lost the ability to scan. It will not scan  an original through computer software nor printer screen menu.

I have repeatedly uninstalled and re-installed printer software and ran HP Print and Scan Doctor to no avail. When I run HP P&S Doctor and attempt to fix scanning it always stops at Driver Error. This was actually a replacement that was obviously  a refurb. Could it be that I was sent a dud? My warranty also just expired the other day too. What are my options?

Hello @czodiac ,

Welcome to the HP forum.

I understand that you are having a problem scanning. I would like to help.

If the printer was a 'dud' you would not be able to make a copy.

If your printer can make a copy, it is definitely a software issue

If your printer can't make a copy, it is a hardware issue.

Since the Print and Scan doctor is giving you an error on the drivers, lets focus on that.

Uninstall the printer software again.

Run a disk clean up, and clear the temporary folder.

Restart your computer.

Since you are running windows 8.1 try the HP Printer Install Wizard.

Yeah, I can't make copies either. What now?

OK @czodiac ,

Hardware issue.

Try this:

While powered on, remove the power cord & refix after 30 seconds (Hard Reset).

Try plugging into a wall outlet directly without the surge protector.

If those do not help try the reset that I have sent you via private message.

Also, Does the scanner bar move when you open the lid & press the copy button?
Does that scanner bulb light up?

These steps are taken from HP's document.

A 'Scanner Failure' Message Displays on the All-in-One Control Panel and You Cannot Scan, Copy, or F...

If the reset does not get the printer to make a copy, it is time to check on the warranty status and call the people over at technical support.

I can't scan from my HP Envy. I've tried hard reboots. Then when I tried installing a new ink cartridge, the scanner spooled forever trying to set the ink cartridge. Now when I turn on the computer it produces a Blue Screen of Death with a fuzzy image of the power button, and blinks endlessly. Please help!

@screenwrit4r, welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out.

I understand that you are unable to scan from your HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer.

Don't worry as I have a few steps that should help fix this issue.

And here's the step by step guide for you in the links below depending upon which operating system is installed on the computer:

1. USB Scanner Connection Error (Windows)

2. USB Scanner Connection is Lost (Mac)

Let me know how that works.

I hope you have a good day ahead.
