Worked fine running on Win7 Ultimate (64 bit)... upgraded to 8 Pro (64 bit) installed the new
I have attemped to install eight times and used the HP Printer Scrubber software to remove all previous versions, reboot and reinstall and continue to get the above error.
I have used the HP Print and Scan Doctor ► and it shows scan error...
The Supported Printers for Windows 8 page says this printer is.... okay
HOW ABOUT A FIX FOR THIS?????

How are you connected to the printer (USB, Wireless or Ethernet)? And do you have any antivirus or other firewall software on your computer?
I am actually going to go and download the same drivers and software on my own Win8 machine and test out what is going on.

No... it is not a solution.
Intalled via wireless... failed!
Installed via USB... failed!
In All cases Antivirus was shutdown upon install, rebooted w/o antivirus running... it does not matter... it fails.
Bachlor of Sciene in Computer information Systems.... Yep I do know what I am doing. It is the HP Solution Center software install.
Scans fine under Windows Fax and Scan with limited capability (so the driver is there)...
Still works fine on second Windows 7 Ultimate machine (also an HP notebook) so no issues with the Officejet 6500
This notebook is a Pavilion g7-2017cl
HP Print and Scan Doctor 3.0 it tests the scanner and it runs during the test but the result is a failure on HP Twain Scan and Front Panel Test

Don't be surprised if you NEVER see a fix for this. HP does not support their printers as well as their computers.
When I upgraded to Win 8 Pro 64 a Windows update would not install.... I spent two hours on the phone never resolved.
HP DOES NOT SUPPORT THEIR PRODUCTS UNLESS IT IS A BUSINESS COMPUTER OR PRINTER.
i HAVE DECIDED i AM DONE WITH HP WHEN THIS NEW LAPTOP DIES I AM MOVING TO AN iMac
and different company for an all in one printer scanner

First of all, the two images that you posted are very interesting. The first error message would only occur if the scanner was not present in your device manager. However, the PSDR would not be able to assess your scanner if it were not present on the same token.
First I would make sure that you have completely removed and uninstalled the printer from all places on your computer. From Programs and Features, your Device Manager and your Devices and Printers as well. I would even go as far as to delete all the files in your Temp folder as a good additional measure.
Then re-download the software and reinstall it on your computer using the full-feature software.
Let me know what becomes of this!

Whare are extended errors 8, (5,0,0)?
It's HP's software because Windows Fax and Scan works fine.... so the drivers ARE installed.
