My .pdf editing software cannot read any file produced by scanning on my HP Photosmart printer. Every time the software displays the following message:
“The PDF file cannot be opened for editing because it is encrypted or corrupted.”
My printer is HP Photosmart 6510 e-All-in-One B211a; Product Number: CQ761A#B1H.
My software is WordPerfect X5, and it has opened all other .pdf documents – whether normal text or tables – that I have tried from those on my computer. All were opened in a format that could be edited.
My computer is a new HP Pavilion dm4-3050us laptop, operating in Windows 7 Home Premium.

Hi mt88,
Can you open the .pdf file using Adobe reader?

Yes, all of the trial scanned documents are opened immediately by Adobe. Thank you, pcwizard (HP), for giving this your attention.

Hi mt88,
If you are looking for editable texted scans you will need to purchase some OCR software which will allow you to scan to editable document.

Thanks once again, pcwizard (HP). Probably the problem, as you seem to suggest, is in my sw, which claims to open .pdf docs in editable format. I just discovered 2 inconvenient solutions:
1 - Use Windows Fax and Scan to scan to a jpeg file on my computer; open it in my sw; save ("publish") as .pdf doc; then my sw opens that file in editable form.
2 - Scan to a .pdf file; open it in Adobe Reader; save as .pdf; open the saved .pdf; and save it in .pdf (this is the 2nd save of the file. Then my sw opens the 2nd save in editable form.
Cumbersome work, but it does seem to be a solution.
So, the problem may be that my sw doesn't like HP scan files. My next step will be to present this description of the problem to my sw publisher, and challenge them on their claim about opening any .pdf doc for editing.
