HP640 fax receiving via extension phone receive code

What Answer/Receive mode does the HP640 have to be set on for the "Receiving via an extention telephone" manual fax code to work. Have set to TEL and no joy. The other modes seem to answer automatically. Manual doesn't cover.

Thanks for the document but I had read it already and it didn't answer my question - unless I'm missing something. Still don't know what setting to use for the code to work. Sounds as if all modes will automatically answer with the exception of TEL which doesn't work with code. Sorry I can't experiment as this is fax we bought for my mother who is in another state.

Hi gusjen,

To use another phone to activate the fax it would need to be set to manually recieve faxes. Once you pickup the phone, and determine it is an incoming fax that is when you enter the code to have the fax take over the line. If manual is not working then you may have a hardware issue with the machine. You call our technical support at 800-474-6836.
