I am using a Mac OS X 10.6.8, 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB. and updated j4680 my printer driver a few months ago. Everything appears to be working OK. I also updated the driver on my XP net book. How do I send a fax from my computer? I know I did do it before, but I can't remember if it was on my Mac or a previous Windows computer. I also noticed on my Mac computer I dont have the Solutions Center which I miss. My fax isn't listed in my utilities, but it is in my system preferences. I think I may have deleted it in my utilities somehow. I tested my fax and it does connect.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi erna,
For this printer model, the fax to PC feature is only supported on Windows. It might have run on your Windows computer before as the HP Solution Center is only for this operating system. You can check your manual for more info or check page 54 of online manual.
Hope this helps you!
Cheers!

Thanks for your answer. Too bad this feature isn't available for the Mac. I will be faxing a 20 page document next month so I guess I'll use my little netbook (XP) to do it. I find when faxing multiple pages from the feeder sometimes pages jam or multiple pages slip through and faxing from memory is safer.

Right you are. I believe it jams when the docs being faxed are clogging the memory thus causing latency on the printer's performance. Plus, there are a lot of factors to consider when you're sending a fax such as the resolution settings, condition of the phone line used, density of the fax image, data encoding method, error correction mode settings, and the distance/time between sending/receiving the fax.
I believe fax to PC works on Mac on some printer models but hopefully you're doing great with your lil XP notebook (for now)
Cheers!

Would you know which HP All-In-Ones have that capability? I'm just curious.
Thanks for all your help.

Hi erna,
I think there might be some confusion in here...
While the Fax to PC featuere is not supported on Mac, as much as i understood, your intention is to send a fax from your Mac, and not recieving a fax into your Mac, which do supported.
Enter System Preferences > Print & Fax.
You should see 2 copies of your printer - one printer and 1 additional fax copy.
If the Fax copy does not exist, click the Plus sign and add the Fax Copy.
If you cannot locate it, try deleting the printer and then run the HP Setup Assistant (Located under Applications > Hewllet-Packard > Device Utilities) to reconfigure the device.
If all of those did not resolved the problem and the Fax does not appear yet, make sure to update the printer software by clicking the Apple icon and then Software Update.
As you may find listed below, your product support both Printer, Scanner and a Fax driver within the HP Printer Driver update:

I went into System Preferences and after hitting the + button, these are the printers that show up.
*HP Officejet J4680 series USB Multifunction
*HP Photosmart D7500 series USB
Officejet J4680 series [192.168.1.140] (Fax) HP-Fax
*Officejet J4680 series [CN934960J4052X] (Fax) HP-Fax
Officejet J4680 series [FD109B] Bonjour
When in a document and I go to print and I choose the [CN93-------] printer to fax, I get "no fax modems found" error. When I go to Fax PDF, the "send fax now" button is grayed out. I tried this with both fax printers listed.
*These 3 printers show up in my Print menu.
I am now totally confused.

It seems like your device is connected both to your network and to your Mac through USB.
Enter Print & Scan and remove any existing print queue of the J4680 by selecting and clicking the Minus sign.
Enter Applications > Hewllet-Packard > Device Utilities, then run the HP Setup Assistant,
You will see the printer listed twice - one as USB and one as Bonjour.
Select the USB if you would like to use the USB connection
Or the Bonjour if you would like to set it over the network.
Then the device should by added twice into your print queue - One as a printer and another as a Fax.
Now try printing by clicking File > Print and select the Fax printer (As same as printing normally), then you shuld see a dialog to provide the Fax number and hit print to proccess the Job.
Please let me know of any change.

I have a quick question first. I have a small netbook which is hooked up wirelessly to my network. I can print and fax with no problems. By deleting and changing settings, will that mess up my netbook? I have no clue how I would redo everything because my son set it up.
