Hi Erna,
I am really sorry for your frustration.
For this printer model, the fax to PC feature is only supported on Windows.
As stated above, the Fax to PC is not supported by Mac - Fax to PC means receiving an incoming Fax to your Mac, which indeed not supported.
Sending a Fax from your Mac is supported, although it seems like there is a problem with the installed software.
Any of my instructions posted above - i made it by performing the same steps with a functional J4680 device, and successfully sent a fax.
Please let me know your Fax driver version:
Click the Apple icon, then click System Preferences.
Click Print & Scan
Double click the J4680 Fax Printer
Click Fax Setup
What Driver Version number is listed?

The Fax driver is 3.1.1 and the regular printer driver is 3.0.2. I guess there is something wrong with my printer if you got yours to work.

I don't believe there is any problem with the printer, as it is working fine with your Windows XP notebook, i assume the software might cause the issue.
The current printer driver is 3.2.0 and the Fax driver is 5.0.1, updating the driver might help us to get some progress:
Click the Apple Icon, then click Software Update...
Once the progress bar finishes, click Show Details.
Make sure the HP Printer Software Update 2.7 is selected and click Install.
Once done, reboot your Mac and try faxing again.
Looking forward for any update ![]()

Nope, the Update Software didn't show any driver updates for my printer. Now what?

I finally figured it out!!! It works!!! There was an extra step in the directions you gave me. One last question. Where is the fax log? ![]()
Your directions are in blue, the extra step is red.
- Open Applications > Textedit and type several words.
- Click File > Print
- Click the Printer selection box and select the HP Officejet J4680 series [CN934960J4052X] (Fax)
- Click "Text Edit under the orientation box" or "Layout", etc. on other documents and choose "Fax Recipients".
- fill the destination fax number into the To: field below.
- Click Fax. the device should begin dialing and send the fax.

Hi Erna,
Sorry for the cofusion, the driver layout has been changed by the last update, as the Fax Recipients field does not exist within the latest version.
The Fax Logs should be available by the HP Utility,
Open Applications > Hewllet-Packard > HP Utility
The Fax Logs icon should appear under the Fax Settings section.

Nope, not there. Should fax be listed in the applications, because that's not there either.
I've been reading in the HP J4680 manual where you can view the fax log from the HP Photosmart Studio software. On the task bar, I should be able to click DEVICES which should open to the HP Device Manager and I should be able to select my device and be able to see the fax log. There is a Device Utility, but nothing is listed. Is this feature available for my HP4680? If not, why is it listed in the manual?

Hi Erna,
The feature is available for your product.
I believe the reason is not available as result of a curropted software, it might happen during the time due to OS Updates as example...
If you are using the printer over the network, i recommend you to unplug the USB cable in order to avoid any confusion, as it isn't being used anyway.
In order to resolve it, we will have to completely remove the installed software, then reinstall the latest software.
below you may find the full instructions to fully remove the software:
**Please be aware that performing the next steps will remove any installed HP Software.
1. Click on Go menu (Click the desktop, then look at the menu in the bar at the top of the page)
2. Select Applications
3. Select the Hewlett-Packard folder
4. Double-click HP Uninstaller application
5. Follow the uninstallation till prompted to select a device to uninstall
6. Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall
7. approve any prompt to uninstall any HP Software.
Download and install the latest software below:
Once done, install the latest HP Software Update by clicking the Apple icon and then Software Update.

When you say I will remove ALL HP software, will that also remove my Photosmart D7560 driver and software? Both of my printers are USB connected.

Hi Erna,
If you are using the printer over the network, i recommend you to unplug the USB cable in order to avoid any confusion, as it isn't being used anyway.
Simply ignore this part - the connection method with the Mac was not clear as the device appears both as USB and network per your previous description ![]()
I was previously reffered to remove any HP Software, however you may oerform a basic uninstallation of the J4680 Only, simply follow the steps above, skip the described Control + Alt + Cmd keys combination.
Select the J4680 software, then click Uninstall.
However, if there will be any issues, there might need to completely remove the software, as any part may rely on another, and then reinstall both of the devices again...
Please find the exact steps in order to prevent any confusion:
1. Click on Go menu (Click the desktop, then look at the menu in the bar at the top of the page)
2. Select Applications
3. Select the Hewlett-Packard folder
4. Double-click HP Uninstaller application
5. Follow the uninstallation till prompted to select a device to uninstall
6. Select the HP Officejet J4580 and click on Uninstall
7. approve any prompt to uninstall any HP Software.
Enter System Preferences > Print & Fax
Make sure there is no copies of the J4680 listed. If there is any, remove it by selecting and clicking the Minus Sign.
Download and install the latest software below:
Once done, install the latest HP Software Update by clicking the Apple icon and then Software Update.
