How do I scan a 3D object so that it is in focus?

This is for an HP photosmart (or not so smart) 7515 scanner-printer-fax machine

That flatbed scanner is not designed to focus past a small distance above the glass. The best bet for creating a printable image of a three dimensional object, is to use a digital camera.
