I can't scan from my wireless printer/scanner/fax to my computer

I have a HP Officejet 6500 E709n Series wireless printer that has a scanner and fax all included.  I can't seem to scan anything from the scanner to my printer, or to any other computer in our house.  I have checked that I am within the wireless range, everything is plugged in and powered up.  I am not very computer/electronically savy and I need some help please.
