Importing and creating a file for the successfully scanned object

I have an HP 2710 all-in-one.  My op sys is win/vista serv pac 2.  I use windows photo gallery to scan documents.  The scanning process is fine.  Once the doc is scanned the win photo software it says it is importing the document but it just sits there forever and does nothing.  You can't even close its little window. It used to create a file immediately.  I have used this program for a long time without this problem.  What has changed?  Where should I look?
