L7780 will not accept inbound fax

Hello All,

I've replaced a single use fax  machine with an L7780. The line being used was an operational analog fax line prior to the switch. We've replaced the cord from the wall to the 7780 with the provided cordage, and the fax test completes successfully.The auto answer button is enabled.

We are able to send faxes no problem. When receiving faxes the set number of rings will complete; while ringing the display screen will alternate between "ringing" and "phone off hook".  The 7780 will not answer unless the auto answer button is pressed. As I stated before, the auto answer button was enabled to begin with and lit. In addition, we've tried the different fax speed adjustments as outlined in the manual, with no change in the answering behavior. The analog line is terminated to the phone company block in the telecom room. There is no PBX between the fax machine and the phone company connection.

Any insight to this would be appreciated

1. Do you have a separate phone number for your fax?

2. Do you have a separate phone line for your fax? Or is it running on the same phone line as with your phone but with separate number?

3. Do you have a distinctive ring assigned to your fax number?

Please provide us with the details of your phone connection.

Yes it is a seperate phone line and seperate phone number. The phone line is a direct connect to the 66 block in the telecom room where the provider demarc is located.

Distinctive ring tones are not in use. The 7780 is set to auto for ring tone ID

Any additional thoughts on this topic? Has anyone tried the fax reset described in the manual? Sounds odd to suggest removing the power cord from the device while powered will reset the fax.

I've noticed the same thing on my L7780 after I upgraded to Snow Leopard.  I've since upgraded the drivers and can SEND faxes, but still cannot receive them.  I've slowed down the fax speed, and my settings are on auto answer.  I've got a distinctive ring tone for the fax (not that I hear it anymore).  Any suggestions?
