When you google this question face up or face down is suggests it is to be face down but when you look at the HP Online it says face up even with the corner bent over thgat suggests it is to be face down but they also say it depends on the manufacturer. SO if you have a M1212nf All in One HP which is the correct way for this FAX Machine usage???

Hi Newaygo1,
The document should be faced up on the document feeder, as you may find listed by the user guide:
Fax from the document feeder 1. Insert the originals into the document feeder face-up.
NOTE: The document feeder capacity is up to 35 sheets of 75 g/m2 or 20 lb media.
