Missing OCR Software on Deskjet F4440

Just unpacked my fathers day present--HP Deskjet F4440. Everything works great except the OCR software is evidently not installed. The help files give directions on how to save a scan as editable text but the options they say to take are not available on the screen.

Any help form the HP Support Family would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for this information! That helped me to get OCR at least for English ... However, I bought my printer in China and I would really like to have OCR for Chinese simplified. Anyone knows how to do that?

I have  a Photosmart Premium C309g-m on Windows-7 64-bit and this fix works for me. Why on earth do HP make this so difficult?

The OCR software you are installing actually comes from I.R.I.S

Just to add that once you have installed the OCR software you can open the scanned document in Word (for editing) or save it as a searchable pdf. You initiate the OCR scan by using the HP Solution Centre software which will now have some new options under the "Scan Document" button.

I am crying to recover documents done of which I have not saved. I would like to scan and edit them, but so far I have not been able to. Whow can I do this? What must I do?
