My Photosmart 5510 e will not recognize my PC which is connected by USB.

I am running WIndows 7. The printer is Photosmart 5510 e All-in-One. Prints and copies fine. When I attempt to scan, my PC does not show in the control panel on the printer. I have gone through the power-on, power-off sequence several times. I have unplugged both the USB and power cord. The "Microsoft FIX-IT" indicated problems but I have no idea how to resolve it through that. Any suggestions?
