I am sorry I have not tried this yet, but I am going to and I was just letting you know what was going on.
One other question...It seems now that off and on, it takes a long time to print one page out. Could the solution that is above take this problem as well?
I know that it is a old printer and 7 years old. Not to get personal, but I am on disability and I need this printer to try and start my own business and keep up on replies and some offers, bids, and other things I send out.
I would not be able to afford one, so I am hoping that this will take care of all the issues. Do you think they will?
Thank You

Hello cadlee
Slow printing can be related to several different things. How long does it take to print a document and how much text/images are on it? Different colors and the complexity of a print job can take longer to print than others.
Also let me know how the previous instructions go.

I tried what you said, and the first time I did it. The WIA was not running at all. So I started it and rebooted it and went back in, and it was still not running. Everytime i tried it, it kept telling me that it was not running.
It says that the startup type is automatic?

Hello cadlee
Thank you for the update. Some times communication problems can occur with very long USB cables. About how long is the one you are using with the printer?
Also have you tried using the printer with a different USB port? Does the printer still work on that original computer you mentioned?

I started using an extension, but realized that might be the problem, so now I am only going with the USB cable that came with the printer. I tried in two of the three USB ports. no change with that.
Also last night, I hooked up the original computer that the printer was downloaded on and then shared the files through the network. I put all the files onto this laptop. Now I just need to know which one and where to go to maybe download the files onto this laptop.
If that is not clear, let me explain with an example. I have a program on the original computer. Used the network to share the file and program to this laptop through the network. but through many times learned that it needed to be downloaded and not just shared. So i downloaded it and it worked fine by doing that. Not with the printer, but with other programs, such as paint and CAD programs and such.
But through the Hewlett Packark files or HP files for the printer, I cant seem to find the one I need to download it to this laptop. Although there is a tool that was on the original computer which is windows XP. It is the HP digital Imagaing Monitor. It says it is not compatible with Windows 7. So that might be a problem with the whole thing as to why this is not working.
The only thing I can think of trying is to find the original installation file I installed on this laptop through the sharing and network and trying that to see if it installs everything including that scanner. Maybe you know where this file would be and that would help.
I am sorry if this does not explain very well what I did. I hope you can follow along. But you have been a very BIG help so far and maybe between the both of us, we can get this to work.
I hope you understand this post and once again, I thank you very much for the help.

Hello cadlee
Are you still able to scan on the Windows XP machine? This way we can verify that the printer and USB cable are working properly.
Based on all the troubleshooting thus far it sounds like a problem with the operating system on your laptop. Let me know whether or not the scan feature still works on your XP machine.

Yes I am able to scan and do eveything on the XP. That was the original computer it was put on and I am even abel to tell the amount of iink that is left through the HP digital Monitor, but when I went to put that on this laptop, it told me it was compatible with Windows 7.
But the answer to your question is "yes". It all works with the XP.

Hello cadlee
Since your XP machine still works properly we have isolated the problem to be on your Windows 7 machine. While the printer should be compatible with your laptop there is a problem within the operating system causing a communication error with the scanner.
In order to scan through the methods you mentioned in your first post Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) needs to be in working order. Following my previous instructions are you able to start the services manually? What happens if you try to start them? You previously stated they were set to automatic but were not running.
If you could, please attach a screenshot of what the WIA services look like on your screen. You can take one by pressing the "Print Scrn" button on the keyboard and using paste "Ctrl V" into paint. Save the image and you can insert the picture into your next post.
