Does anyone know how to get OCR for the Envy all-in-one 100 D410 printer? I wasted hours before I discovered that the software does not include OCR! What was HP thinking???

Hi Bernice,

I have a simple procedure to install OCR. First we need to download and save the driver for HP OJ Pro 8500A Premium 910 to computer. Use the below link to download the software to computer:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-81839-3&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&...=

Once it is completed, start the installation. When you are presented with options which are being installed, uncheck all the options except OCR.

Note: There will be two options which we are greyed out. Do not worry about them

Continue with the installation and select "I will connect later" at the connectivity type screen. Finish the s/w installation.

Now double click the scan icon of Envy 100 D410 on the desktop. Select "Everyday Scan" and from the drop down menu for "File Type" you can select either "Searchable PDF" or "RTF". Try scanning.

If you are successful, click on Start or Windows icon ==> All Programs ==> HP ==> HP OJ 8500A ==> Uninstall.

This will remove the 8500 driver from the computer and OCR will not be uninstalled.

What if you have a Mac?  Is it possible to use OCR?

I'm sorry, but I don't know; I am a PC user. I hope someone else will have the answer for you.

Yes it also works on the Mac.

I searched ont he HP Officejet Pro 8500A Premium e-All-in-One Printer - A910n chose the Mac drivers and scrolled down until I found my OS version.

I ended up doing a full standard install because I couldn't work out how to just install the OCR. It worked well. It tries to find the printer and when it can't there's a roadblock but I found a way to click around it and carry on with the install.

Once installed go back to your original Scan software and scan as you did before. When you save the file you'll have the option to save in an rtf format and the OCR software does it's job. Perfectly I might add. Excellent.

I never did delete the A910 printer drivers. COuldn't work out how.
