Officejet 6500 709A prints but will not scan. HP driver missing.

I can print from the Officejet 6500 709A, but cannot scan.  I have run the HP Diagnostics which fails at the DRIVER check.  At one point, I skipped through this error and it installed a Windows (or TWAIN) driver that allowed it to scan, but only once.  It has failed since.

I have downloaded the most current driver package from the website (the full package).  I have uninstalled and reinstalled with the same results.  It tells me the package has installed correctly.  Other things I have tried...

- Rest the printer

- Scan from Windows Fax and Scan

It appears to me that the HP scan driver is not being installed at all or is corrupt.  Can I download just the driver and manually put it out in a folder?  And which folder would that be.

The system OS is Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

Same exact problem here. Tried everythig, reinstalled software,drivers nothing works. Can print but not scan....HELP

Hi...I had the same issue and like you re-downloaded the version 14.0 (2010) full softward package twice.  The first time that I did that it never installed successfully, but the second time it did download the E709n version.

I discovered under All Programs an "HP directory" that had a file called "HP Document Manager" that looks like Windows Explorer but in addition has a row of icons in the top toolbar.  In the toolbar is an HP scan icon (with the lid of the scanner partially open).  I mouseclicked that icon that took me to a series of scanning dialog boxes and saved my document to the photo/scan file.

Hope that helps...now, if I can only download the fax wizard to set up a dial-up fax service for the same 6500 E709n printer.

I have the exact same issue.  I have installed and reinstalled the driver at least three times and I still cannot scan!

Is there a fix out there?

If not, why is HP marketing their product as a scanner when it doesn't scan and they know it!  The message boards are filled with this same issue.

HP, please fix this and let the users know how to get their use out of the device they paid for!
