Officejet Pro 8600 Many verticle lines using "Black" but Color okay

I just bought a new Officejet Pro 8600 and found if I scan or copy a document using "Black" that the resulting copy or image (PDF) has many verticle black lines across the entire page.  It's not uniform and the resulting image is unreadable.  Though if I choose "Color" then everything is fine.

This is with both the ADF and bed.  Anybody ever had this?

I'm getting this same issue, Cambion.  I haven't found any fix online.  Please post if you find something.

Hello waterfromdust

I would suggest first trying the following article, it covers verticle lines during scans and may resolve the issue. Please let me know if anything changes.

Vertical Bands, Lines, or Streaks in Copies, Faxes, or Scans

Re: Officejet Pro 8600 Many verticle lines using "Black" but Color okay

Sorry for the delayed response, but I've been out of the area for the past month and a half.  The issue is not with color prints and color scans.  It's only when BLACK is used.  That is, when I press BLACK and not COLOR to scan or print, the horrible black lines appear.  I'm still searching for an answer.  I was thinking about maybe bringing it back to Best Buy and use my warranty to have them check a new unit.  If more than one person is having this issue, I'm thinking it's a firmware problem that needs fixing.

Hello Cambion

If the article above didn't help and the problem persists I would suggest calling HP Support.

Re: Officejet Pro 8600 Many verticle lines using "Black" but Color okay

[ Edited ]

I have a brand new 8600, so NOTHING is dirty on the scanner side.  Color works fine... Grayscale or B/W ALWAYS has lines in it.  AND it doesn't matter whether I scan/print or scan to PDF from my PC.

The problem is in the onboard scanning software/firmware.

I have checked my drivers and firmware and they are both up-to-date.

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. :smileymad:

My 6 year old All-In-One always worked fine.  I scan large volumes of Navy Cruise Books and post them for viewing to my shipmates.  I always scanned in Grayscale since the file size is much smaller than color scanning.

This problem MUST be addressed and fixed.

Re: Officejet Pro 8600 Many verticle lines using "Black" but Color okay

My issue was resolved by updating the firmware.  Seems that there was a fault in  earlier versions of the firmware that were causing the issue.

You can get the latest firmware in the support section of the HP web site.

The issue is scanning, not printing.

Change the black ink cartrage... seriously? That has nothing to do with scanning.
