Carol:

I agree that he is NOT from HP.  If HP ever responds, they will be able to supply a date for a Beta release and then a date for a final release candidate.  I would also suspect (and hope) that HP would want each of us in this forum to test the Beta candidate as we are all a universe of the problem.

Come on HP... help out!  Check out some reviews of this product on websites from Costco, Buy.com, etc. , they are not favorable at all.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.  I wish HP would get on the ball and fix this too.  It's getting to be a joke.  How long has this printer been out and still problems.

Re: PhotoSmart C309a locks when copying - FAULT

Mr.Matthew:

Thank you for monitoring and administering the posts and rants by frustrated customers. I respect the rules of this forum and did not intend to violate them in any way and appreciate your removing the potentially offending post.

Perhaps you would find it more effective to forward the concerns of customers (one who purchases products or services and 'should' gain utility) to the product or engineering manager where the problem would be addressed instead of lingering and causing those customers to purchase from other companies.

Best regards

P

Re: PhotoSmart C309a "jams" on wke-up usage - FAULT

Hello all,

I have two other printers, both HP, a B&W laser and a color laser, so the C309a is primarilly a Fax machine and occasional photo printer.  As such, I do not use the C309a very muck.  However, when I want to use the Fax, i do want it to function without a lot of cursing on my part.

I approach the C309a, which is apparently awake as my compuetr is connected to it and the display is active.  I insert my fax pages, enetr the fax number and press the start fax key.  The first page enters the ADF and stops half way, and thats all she wrote, it is jamed, stuck, halted, frozen, and unuseable.

I've tried to do a flatbed copy prior to using the ADF... no luck, same thing.  Does anyone have a work-around until HP wakes up and fices the problem?

Thanks for your help.

I also wanted to throw this printer out the window when it would lock up on first attempt to scan.

I discovered a workaround.  Just before scanning, open the CD/DVD tray all the way down.  Close it.

The scanner will now scan the first time.  Gotta love their software talent...............

Good Luck

Very cool...Opening the tray definitely puts the printer in a "awakened state."

Thank you Popski.

Re: PhotoSmart C309a locks when copying

I'm having the same trouble as everyone else.  Lock up when trying to copy after the printer has been idle.   I think printing is fine, just a problem when copying.  I get the same response.  Printer whirs like it is going to copy, takes the document half way into the ADF, then nothing happens.  Hit cancel, display says "Canceling", but stays that way forever.  Only way to get it back to normal is to unplug the power.  Then get a message telling me I shouldn't do that because it will damage the printer.

OK HP - So many people are having the same problem - What are you doing about it?  This is a new printer (less than a year old).  I'd like this to be resolved.

Re: PhotoSmart C309a locks when copying

HP offered to replace my printer.  I accepted and received a brown box product.  I have installed the product and have not had a recurrance of the problem.  BUT, it has only been a few weeks, the problem is random, and only occurs in certain conditions.  Everytime I attempt to prove the relief of this problem, I find that someone else has recently used the printer or received a fax.

The on thing that I have noticed is the ADF does not have the grip of my previous machine.  I do have to encourage each piece of paper to enter the ADF.

NOTE to those that replace their machines:  If you connect to a LAN and use DHCP to assign an IP address to the printer, it may NOT necessarily assign the same IP as the previous printer.  You will then have to manually correct on each workstation connected to the printer.
