Photosmart printer will not scan to my Mac!

I have patiently reinstalled the software twice, downloaded the updated software, reninstalled again.

However, when I go to scan a document, the HP Scan software goes into an endless loop looking for the WIreless Photosmart Printer/Scanner. I have a brand new iMac and this printer/scanner was given away for free with it. Unfortunately the two devices don't seem to work together properly. The printer/Scanner is able to scan via WiFi I use the very clunky web interface. So the wireless part of it is set up properly if you were thinking that might be the problem. The model is B110a - not that that is written anywhere at all on the printer - luckily after three months of it not working I still have the box. I think I will have to give it away for free - I'd feel guilty selling something that doesn't work properly.

I followed the directions for fixing the HP scan problem but realized at the end that I have OS X 10.5.8 and not  the 10.6 operating system...so, it didn't work and I still can't scan from my Mac.  Does anyone have any other advise and to fix this problem.

How do you fix the scan problem for Macs working on the OS X 10.5.8 system?  I tried the one listed for OS X 10.6 but it didn't work.

I'm also having this issue on a mac running 10.4.11.  I've done the following:

Use the "scrub" uninstall as described in an earlier post.

Reboot.

Run software update.

Run Repair Permissions.

Download the "Full Feature Software and Drivers - Mac OS X v10.4, v10.5, v10.6" from HP.

Run the installer.

Still no luck:

Printing works great.

The HP Scan application never finds the scanner, it just spins.

Using the scan menu on the 4780 itself pops up the automator action, so it is connecting to the computer, but then it gives the "scan cannot be performed because another program..." error diaog.

Should I delete ALL the files in the finder for HP? I have been working on a simple project for four hours now. It is now a quest.

I am assuming that the post that suggested going to the "hard drive" symbol meant the finder.

With a new imac and old Officejet Pro 7590, when I try to scan I get the message "no paper.' When I run the diagnostic, I get the message "no paper." It will print documents (with the exception of not letting me print only certain pages ie print pp 5-7 only.) But one problem at a time.  

Can anyone help?

HP's own Web site tells you how to use your HP scanner with the MacBook. You'll bypass the HP software entirely and drive the scanner from within the OS X operating system.

I can't download HP drivers for photosmart C5250 to my mac.  The installer says the install was successful, but it won't let me continue on to setup.  Help!  I've uninstalled the drivers, and now I can't do anything!

I registered here specially to thank Jive62 for the advice. It fixed my problem. For months and months I could not use my printer (HP Photosmart C4680 with Snow Leopard/Mac). I searched the net in vain with no result. I followed your instructions (I uninstalled, did the disc utiity thing, restarted, downloaded the HP printer driver from the apple site and then updated drivers from the HP site, and it all works like a dream now. I finally have my printer back and it was sorely needed in our household. Thank you so very much!!!!
