Printer Issues

I have a hp officejet 8500. when I scan or copy I get a black stripe down one side. printing is fine though.

Does this happen using the glass plate and the Document feeder or just one of them? If on both, try connecting the power cord directly into a wall socket (iff not allready) instead of an extension cord
