I have had my printer since Oct 2011 and am just now attempting to make a photo copy. When I hit preview, The scan is pitch black. (and I have the paper turned face down on the scanner). I thought maybe there was something wrong with the scan preview so I hit 'copy' anyways... and it print came out all black. What am I doing wrong? Im still under warranty but Im not sure if this is a known issue and I can't seem to find any similiar problems on the forums.

I have the same problem with my Envy 100 when scaning or copying all i get is black screen, running the diagnostic tool it can't find any problems but the screen is all black. If i just take copy without preview it will print the paper black but with a normal print it's great

I have encountered the exact same problem with my Envy 100 D410a when scaning and copying - black page on the screen when previewing, and black page on paper when copying. I believe someone in this forum said it may be a scanner sensor problem. Does that mean a hardware failure? Unfortunately for me, this happened 2 weeks after my one year warranty period expired! Both scanning and copying were working fine previously. Can someone tell me if this is a fixable problem? If so, how? If not, what are my options? Thanks!

Exact problem here.
I have this problem no more than 1 year after bought it.
But, because I bought it with the apple online purchase with a macbook air... the warranty is just 1 month...
I'm rarely to use the scan function. And I got this problem a weeks ago.
At that day, all scans as the whole black pages, so I just left it there.
And I tested it again at night. Seems no problem.
But now the problem occurs again.

Finally I've asked hp hong kong about the repair.
Because I bought it at the apple store online with other products to have HKD800 refund, it has 1 month warranty only.
HP quotes me HKD400 for checking and would charge parts replacement.
If it's really the failure of scanning sensor, the repair charge should be over HKD1000.
The story teaches me :
1) Warranty is very important.
2) Don't join such refund program with shorter warranty period.
3) The beautiful machine is easlier to fail (I've never experience the printer failure before for about 10 printers).

I agree - the HP Envy 100 is a beautiful all-in-one printer except for the fact that it apparently has a defective scanner sensor!

Same thing as well.
When I try to scan or copy I just get a black page with coloured lines.
I'm out of warrenty so it looks like that's this one is going in the bin and I'll never buy another HP product.

The defective scanner issue is certainly something HP should look into and fix, or they'll lose a lot of customers. Hope they are reading these postings.

I have the same problem, but I have a MiniMac. What can I do to fix it? The printer/scanner is only a little more than a year old so I will not be happy if i have to replace it.
