I am connecting my Deskjet F340 All-in-One to a different XP machine. The scan button on the machine doesn't initiate a scan. The green light blinks but nothing happens. I can scan from the HP software on the machine and the scan button does work when calibrating the printheads.
I've run the HP Scan Diagnostic and it says it can't find the software needed to scan with HP software. I suggests I reload software which I tried. When I loaded the software initially it continued to hang at the 3/4 stage when it was "installing additional software." The only way I count get it past that was to end the "wrapper.exe" process in the "task manager" per a mention of this problem online.
The scan button works when connected to a a different XP machine. I see similar problems with other All-in-Ones but solutions suggested haven't yielded results.

Hello HuskerPreacher
Did you set the settings for the Scan Button from Solution Center?

I looked at that and don't really see anything to change. I noticed that although the printer does copy with the button when I try to look at the copy settings in the Solution Center I get a message that "the device is not responding or is disconnected" and then a flash of a screen with what looks like copy settings (I don't see it long enough to be sure).

Hello HuskerPreacher
Try the following procedure to remove all HP Printer software from the XP machine that is having problems. This should hopefully allow you to complete the installation and allow you to change the button settings on the printer.
From Original installation CD:
1. Insert CD into drive, and then cancel the installer
2. Open My Computer, and then right click on the CD drive and chose open
3. Open folder Util
4. Open folder CCC
5. Run the L4uninstall.bat
6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools
8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
9. Download the full feature software and drivers
10. Run the download to reinstall the printer
If software was downloaded and extracted to your system:
1. Type %temp% in the run field
2. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
3. Open folder Util
4. Open folder CCC
5. Run the L4uninstall.bat
6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools
8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
9. Download the full feature software and drivers
10. Run the download to reinstall the printer

I've tried "clean" installs before but I still went through the steps you listed twice.
In the meantime I've noticed that information in the "help" materials mention items in the button settings area I do not have (even on the machine that the printer's scan button does work with). Specifically the "Front Panel Destinations List Setup dialogue box" and the "Save options dialog box". I've looked at other programs in the suite and can't find anything like that. The version of "HP Solution Center" I have is 60.0.114.000. I see versions with later dates (2005) but don't want to download something that is going to compound the problem.
As I said earlier the copy feature works from the printer panel . . . but not from the "Solutions" software. The message I get when I try to used the software is "Device is not responding or is disconnected." Suspect these problems are probably related but not sure how.

Hello HuskerPreacher
Try the following article for "The Scan Button doesn't work".
The Scan Button on the All-in-One Does Not Function When the Product is Connected to Windows
If the problem persists let me know. Also how is the printer connected to the computer?

I ran the diagnostic/doctor program from the link. It was different than one I ran before. The one I ran before indicated a software issue--this one did not. The last time I reinstalled the software I made sure to have the task manager open so I could end the "wrapper.exe" process because that is the only way to prevent the process from hanging. The software continues to load and seems to do so successfully.
I looked at the other troubleshooting options in the software from the link and the only thing I hadn't tried recently (although I have tried it before) was to turn off the firewall. Nothing changed.
The printer is connect via a USB cable. When I connect it to the laptop it does work in I used the same USB cable. Both are Dell machines. Both are running XP professional. One is an Inspiron 600m (the one it the button works with, the older of the two machines) and the other is an Inspiron 6000.

Hello HuskerPreacher
Based on the troubleshooting it would seem that there is a problem with the operating system. Since it is working fine on your other computer the problem lies in the fact that for whatever reason wrapper.exe freezes on that computer. If you go the route of re-installing Windows don't forget to backup your data.
