Scan function produces error "8,[8,0,0]"

Deskjet F2480 All-in-one Printer

WinXP SP3

Printing and copying work well.  Attempt to Scan produces "...software component not loaded.  Reload HP Photosmart software....error detail "8, [8,0,0]"

All virus software disabled before loading Version 13.0.1 Installation disk ( accepting all options)

This installation has been repeated multiple times, always producing same scan error message

Also downloaded DJ_AIO_06_F2400_NonNet_Full_Win_enu_140_175.exe, installed multiple times;  same scan error message

Also tried installation on two other WinXP systems......same scan error message

Please use plain text.

Re: Scan function produces error "8,[8,0,0]"

Hi,

Lust a though, please verify your screen resolution settings.

Is the display configured as Normal (96 DPI)?

  1. Click on Start and then Control Panel.
  2. Once the control panel is set as Classic View, double-click on the Display icon.
  3. A box will pop up. Click on the Settings tab.
  4. Click on Advanced.
  5. Change the DPI setting to Normal size (96 DPI)

Now reboot your PC and try scanning again.

Please let me know of any change,
Shlomi

Re: Scan function produces error "8,[8,0,0]"

The DPI was already set to 96.

The error text says "...software component missing..."   ??

There are lots of posts about this problem, but no solutions....??

[ Edited ]

Hi,

Thank you for clarifying.

Do you getting the error by using the Scan Picture, Document or both of the options?

Additionally, please try the following and let me know what happend:

Enter C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\Bin.

Locate and double click the hpiscnapp.exe file.

Can you scan using the following method or do you see any similar error?

Additionally, to double check. Is your Windows OS installed on C driver or any other driver?

Re: Scan function produces error "8,[8,0,0]"

Scan pic and scan doc produce the same errror

If I use the .exe file the scan process works perfectly.  I can scan pics or docs, and save them to a file.

WinXP SP3 is installed on the C: drive, as is the HP software.

Re: Scan function produces error "8,[8,0,0]"

OK,

Let's try the following steps and check if there is any difference:

  1. Enter the installation folder:
  2. Click the Start button, then click Run.
  3. Type %temp% to access the temporary folder and click OK.
  4. Inside you will find the installation temporary folder, starts with the 7Z characters.
NOTE: If you see several folders starts with 7Z, delete any of them and run the latest used installation file once again. Once it finish to extract the files, terminate the setup windows we only need to re-extract the software.
  5. Inside the HP folder, enter the Setup folder.
  6. Enter the scan folder.
Inside you will find the Scan.msi file which have a different icon than the others.
Right click above the file and select Repair.
  7. Go one folder above and enter the solutioncenter folder
Repair the SolutionCenter.msi as listed above.
  8. Go one folder above and enter the destinations folder
Repair the Destinations.msi as listed above.
  9. If there is any error during some of the file's repair, please clarify the exact error and for which file it occourd.
  10. Once repairing any of the files above, reboot the PC and start scanning again.

If the same persists, please try setting a selective startup and check if there is any change:

  1. Click Start,
  2. Click Run.
  3. Type MSCONFIG.
  4. Select the Selective startup option.
  5. Uncheck the Load Startup items checkbox.
  6. Enter the Services tab.
  7. Check the bottom checkbox Hide all Microsoft services.
  8. Now click Disable All.
  9. Enter the Startup tab.
  10. Check only the startup items starting with HP.
  11. Click OK and reboot your PC, then try scanning and check for any change.

Please let me know of any change while there are no additional programs running, in order to eliminate any 3rd party software which may affect the HP software.

Once finishing the test, make sure to set the PC back to nornal:

  1. Click Start,
  2. Click Run.
  3. Type MSCONFIG.
  4. Select the Normal startup option.
  5. Confirm and reboot.

Please let me know of any progress you may get during any of the steps,

Shlomi

After clicking ‘repair’ on Scan folder…

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable"

"Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Scan.msi' in the box below"

(box)  "C:\docume~1\owner\locals~1\temp\7zs28e8\setup\scan\"

After clicking ‘repair’ on SolutionCenter folder…

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable"

"Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'SolutionCenter.msi' in the box below"

(box)  "C:\docume~1\owner\locals~1\temp\7zs28e8\setup\soluti~1\"

After clicking ‘repair’ on Destinations folder…

Re: Scan function produces error "8,[8,0,0]"

Hi again,

Try repeating the same with Destinations.msi, but select Install this time.

Reboot the PC and check for any change.

If the same persists, rename the current 7z folder into 7zs28e8 and try repairing the scan.msi and solutioncenter.msi again.

Please let me know of any change.

Re: Scan function produces error "8,[8,0,0]"

Same issues as previous post, after trying above suggestion.

Why do I have to invoke Scan via the HP Digital Imaging application (where the problem exists) ?

Why can't I just create a desktop icon that invokes the scan executable (as tried before) ?

Re: Scan function produces error "8,[8,0,0]"

Well, you can create a shortcut as a workaround, I'm trying to figure any option to resolve the problem rather than bypassing it but it certainly a possibility.

You may create a new desktop shortcut by poiniting it to the C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\Bin\hpiscnapp.exe and directly launch the scan application.

Regards,

Shlomi
