Scan has zero response, HP Officejet 4500-g.

HP Officejet 4500-g will not scan--no response.  I have Windows 7-32. Scanner error at startup says imaging device is not found.  I have reinstalled by disc and downloads, had local experts try, no fix after "trying everything."  Error is 8,[(1,0,-2147221502)].  One suggestion is to install HP Photosmart software.  Why? Can't find it on original disc or HP online.  Copy and print functions work just fine.  Is there a fix to restore the scan?

Please try the following article. It will help you to scan without Solution Center. This way we can determine if the printer may be at fault or if it is Solution Center that is having problems.

I tried all the suggestions shown in your link, but with the same result. In Photo Gallery the product list was blank, in FAX and Scan there was "no scanner detected" and downloading Copy and Scan basic software shows the imaging device not found. Must be some mechanical/electrical connection in the scanner itself, so probably not fixable. Thanks for your help anyway.

It seems it may be the printer, however, if you don't mind we can see if there is anything else we can do. How is the printer connected network or USB?

Printer is USB connected.  We found no problems it that, print from computer works OK, etc.

Have you tried to re-install using the Full Feature Software? I would suggest trying it. Let me know if anything changes or if it doesn't. The link below should bring you to the download page just choose your operating system.
