If you do a standalone copy from the front of the printer, does it also copy come out Black?

Scan is completely black, and a copy of same is also completely black.  This HP PSC 1610 all-in-one has worked perfectly for a year or two.  Now, all of a sudden, everything is black.  I shut down computer, disconnected power and waited.  Now it's back up and the same.  THanks for any help.
