Scaner is only scanning documents as photos (HP Officejet 5510 All-In-One)

Is someone able to provide advice on how to get documents to scan as documents versus photos? They used to scan as documents, but now they aren't. Thank you.

What type of documents?  Word or PDF?  If pdf you have to have the latest version of PDF Acrobat reader or Acrobat 9.0 in order to scan as PDFs as older versions are not compatible with Windows Vista.

They are hard copies of word documents that I am trying to scan.

May I know what's the OS of your computer?

If Windows, do you have the HP Solution center or HP Director installed? If yes, you can try using that software to scan docus as pdf or as text.

I have XP. I did find HP Director and that was the software that used to pop up when scanning docs. Why isn't it giving me the option of scanning photos or documents when I select scan on my scanner/printer? I did scan it as a doc and it worked. Thanks for your help.

I upgraded to windows 7 and can not scan document in pdf format like before. I downloaded the acrobat reader x. What else can I do?
