I am planning to buy a new computer with Windows 7 and would like to use my scanner (SJ3500c). According to the Win 7 compatability information I received from Microsoft, the scanner is compatable but the driver is not. Will HP be introducing a new driver in the near future?

WalterC,
It appears that the 3500c should be available via Windows Update (link).

Please let us know if the Windows Update works.

scandroid, that link that you gave doesn't seem to exist any more.
Both of these links lead me to think that there's no Windows 7 support for ScanJet 3500c.

I checked - all the updates for Scanjets that were scheduled for win7 support have been finished and posted. I'm sorry to confirm your 3500c is not supported by hp on Win7.

I just connected the scanner to a computer with an USB cable when the scanner was powered up. Then Windows 7 64bit installed a driver and it worked automatically. The driver has limited settings, but the scanner can be used anyway.
I tested Windows Live Photo Gallery for scanning and it seems to have possibility to save different scan settings and directories where to save files.

Yes, I have the scanner working in limited mode too. I was hoping that HP software would support the driver and give me more functionality like I had in XP. I have downloaded a trial copy of VueScan and that seems to be communicating with the scanner with no problems. As long as it does multi-page PDF from the sheet feeder, I will probably buy that software.
Also, this scanner was a ScanJet 4700. I was just looking for software soluction from HP, but looks like I'm out of luck there.

Today I discovered that installing col3927 made it possible to use my 3500c scanner under windows 7 home premium.
The installed drivers are
...system32\drivers\usbscan.sys
...system32\ hp3500co.dll, hpgt35.dll, hpxp3500.dll

Vue-scan seems to handle all my needs with the scanner.

I had to unplug the scanner, uninstall all HP software and drivers, then plug scanner back in and let Windows 7 install it. I can only scan in Photoshop though but it lets you adjust the DPI and colour settings.
