Scanned document size - J6480

When I scan a letter size document with high enough resolution for a quality copy PDF, the size of the document is 3 feet x 2 feet and becomes 1.5-5 mb.  Way too large.  So, if I lower the resolution to 200 dpi to maintain print quality it becomes somewhat smaller but still not small enough to email multiple pages.

I've read all the posts about the size of the files, but nobody has mentioned that the actual file size become so huge.

Can anyone tell me why HP can't set the size for Letter or Legal and leave it at that, so we could have a 30kb or 165kb document?  Update our software and we can all get on with our lives.

Does anybody who works for HP use their equipment?  It seems like it is several different products.  I don't know many people who own printers that will print documents 3 feet x 2 feet tall.  It is absurd.

:womanvery-happy:

I am having the same " large document size" problem you have described. The dimensions of the original documents to scan are 8.5" x 11" (standard letter size) and the scanned to PDF documents are 35" x 45"). Have you resolved your problem, or have any hints you can pass along to me?

Re: Scanned document size - J6480

I have the Officejet Pro L7680 All-in-one so I'm not sure this applies to other machines but  I was having the same issue where I'd scan a letter size document and the output size came out different.  Just stumbled on a solution so thought I'd share:  Go to the "Paperport" program (mine appears under "Scansoft Paperport 9.0" - look on your installation disk if you don't see the program listed under "All Programs"); select the scanner but be sure to choose your machine and NOT TWAIN; click "Scan"; another "What do you want to scan?" window will pop up and there is an option to select what type of document you're scanning - choose "custom setting" and go to "adjust ..." where you could choose the resolution otherwise selecting "black and white picture or text" would result in a fairly small kb size; then at the bottom of the page you'll find the "Paper Size" selection where you can choose "Letter Size 8.5" x 11."  Voila!  Hope this works for you too.  This was a really frustrating problem.

This is just to address file size on disc, not sure how to force document to letter or legal for you though :smileysad:

To get a small file size when scanning PDF files with HP software try this:

Set file type to PDF (not pdf-searchable)

Set Output to BLACK & WHITE (Not color or greyscale)

Compare your results, the difference should be substantial

Re: Scanned document size - J6480

I have a 5610xi all in one that I use at one office, and a newer version of the all in one in another.  When I installed the newer printer on my laptop, the HP solution center was updated for my 5610xi as well.  Since then, when I scan a document on the 5610, it is enormous.  When I try to efax it, it is illegible.  When I email it, it doesn't matter, but sometimes I need to be able to efax, so this is a problem I need to solve.  I have tried reducing ppi, not sharpening, etc., but nothing seems to impact the problem.  Does anyone know if the older version of the HP solution center can be installed at the same time as this newer version, and whether it can be downloaded from the HP website?  I have not been able to find it.  If anyone has any better ideas, would love to hear them!
