Re: Scanner Unreachable - HP Officejet Pro 8600

Hi darrensweeney,

It appears that you may have some issue with the operating system on this computer. Install the printer using the USB connection, and let me know if you have the same issues?

Re: Scanner Unreachable - HP Officejet Pro 8600

Occasionally when I run the HP Scan diagnostics (HPSDU) I get this dialoge box poping up:

Which device.JPG

Once I click on the Officejet icon, the scan text completes the test.

Re: Scanner Unreachable - HP Officejet Pro 8600

I uninstalled, then reinstalled the driver using USB. It seems to be working OK. I can scan from the Officejet 8600 to PC. And can scan from the PC.

So I guess this means my network install is where my problem is?

I will leave it on USB for a few hours to see how it behaves.

Re: Scanner Unreachable - HP Officejet Pro 8600

Hi darrensweeney,

How far is the printer from the router?

What is the make and model of you router?

Run the following utility.

Re: Scanner Unreachable - HP Officejet Pro 8600

[ Edited ]

The printer and the PC are connected into a 5 port giga switch (D-link DGS-1005D) the switch is connected to the router (D-link DIR 655) about 30 feet away. All is connected with cat-6 ethernet.

I haven't experienced any issues with my network or my internet connected this way until hooking in the Officejet 8600.

I ran the utility you gave me a link to, but being hooked to USB it didn't tell me much. I will run it again later when I am connected back to the network. What should I be looking for after it runs?

Re: Scanner Unreachable - HP Officejet Pro 8600

I left the USB hookup connected overnight and everything working fine. No connection issues.

Now I have connected to the printer via Wireless using the USB to Wireless setup wizard. It connected fine and everything worked as expected initially, but within 30 minutes it was behaving with the same problems as my wired ethernet connection.

Hi darrensweeney,

Did you run the following utility again?

Re: Scanner Unreachable - HP Officejet Pro 8600

Yes I ran the printer/scanner utility. It passes the printer test. For the scan test it prompts me to download HPSDU ver 4.2 which is the same one I used before and I get the same results. With this it passes the Windows WIA scan and sometimes hangs on the HP Twain Scan test. Today it ran both OK. But I still got popups in the systray saying the network connection was lost etc. When I run the HPSDU I am promped to choose a scanner or printer device, if I don't the scan will not run.

Which device.JPG

After I select OfficeJet Pro 8600 the scan completes. I wonder why it does not know to select the right one itself? This might be a clue.

When I try to scan from the printer to the PC using the touch screen, I still get this error message:

Scanner Unreachable.JPG

When I open the OfficeJet 8600 shortcut on my desktop (where it lists Web Connected Solutions, Scanner Actions, Printer Preferences, Pricacy Disclosures, Shopping Resources, Fax Actions, Help and Support) and choose Scan to Network Folder Wizard. I get stopped by this error message:

Scan to Network Folder Setup error.JPG

Again all the other PC's connected to the printer via my network have no problems, it is something with this PC.

I'm still connected wirelessly but after we have this fixed I intend to go back to a wired ethernet connection.

Re: Scanner Unreachable - HP Officejet Pro 8600

Hi darrensweeney,

When you check the WIA services in services.msc you didn't see some of the dependencies which should have been there. You could have some issues with the operating system on this computer. You may want to consider backing up your data, and then run a full system recovery before attempting to reinstall the printer again.
