Scanner appearing as "Scanner #2" when, in fact, I only have one and ALWAYS only had one.

I tried uninstalling the device and reinstalling it, yet it still shows up as "Scanner #2" in "Scanners and Cameras". Device Manager shows only ONE scanner. Using an HP Scanjet 5550c with Vista Ultimate 64 bit.

MrManFam,

 

Sometimes a plug-n-play event on a device will reinstall the device and WIA will create a new entry for the scanner. The scanner should still work but now has a different name under WIA because of how WIA manages the devices.  If the scanner is not working it is a different problem.
