Scanning letter paper on CM1312nfi on Mac OS X results in legal size scan output?

Scanning letter paper on CM1312nfi (on Mac OS X 10.6) results in legal size scan output? Firmware is up to date. Why is this happening and how to fix?

Could you attach a picture of an original and the output?

I should have mentioned, that this problem only happens when I use the document feeder. It will scan a single page in letter with letter output. Here is an image of the original letter and then the output in legal format.

Hi,

What application are you using to scan?

When the scanning software does a preview scan from the document feeder, it shows you the maximum scannable area.

You should then be able to select the area you actually want to scan from the preview image.

I am using the HP Director product that came with the machine. The "preview" function stays grayed out, so I don't have that option. Maybe the fact that it doesn't work is the problem, not sure.

Re: Scanning letter paper on CM1312nfi on Mac OS X results in legal size scan output?

OK, thanks for the info.

For scanning, it's important to have the latest firmware installed on the CM1312. It's available here.

Meanwhile, I've asked our SW team to take a look at this issue. (Sorry to pass the buck -- I'm a firmware guy and a Mac guy and have used the scan software, but I don't know enough details to provide more suggestions. The SW guys should be able to help.)

Thanks, I did update the firmware earlier today. It originally worked, but stopped some time ago. No idea why.

The "MacGuyAtHP" is having trouble logging into the forums so I'll post his response:

"The issue is well known.  We fixed the issue.  Either it was fixed in code or fixed in a FW update, I do not recall which.  We'd want to confirm that the user is using the latest solution from hp.com and updated to latest FW. Sounds like the latter is confirmed."

Bottom line: make sure you are using the latest solution.  I believe you can obtain the latest solution here:

I just installed the latest firmware before posting this question, but I will re-install the full software solution and see if that fixes it by chance.

Re: Scanning letter paper on CM1312nfi on Mac OS X results in legal size scan output?

Something just occurred to me (SW guys pls correct me if I'm wrong): I seem to recall that if I re-installed the software without using the HP uninstall utility to remove the previous version, I sometimes saw unexpected behavior after the new software installed.

I haven't looked at the Mac sw in a while, so I'm not sure if an uninstaller still exists, but it's something to check for.
