Scanning to pdf with a Mac creates huge page size.

HP Photosmart C309a

Mac Lion OS

 

When I scan a 8.5x11" document using my HP Photosmart c309a all-in-one with the pdf to Acrobat Pro 9 or Preview setting to my Mac the page size of the scan is huge, e.g. 30 inches tall.  My driver is all up to date as of today (Dec 8, 2011) and was downloaded from Apple's website - the HP all-in-one driver package for Lion OS.  I can't find in the HP software where I can set the size.  I just want an 8.5x11" document to be scanned as an 8.5x11" file.
