Trouble connecting to your AiO Scanner? Try the HP Print and Scan Doctor

[ Edited ]

When you try to scan, does your computer experience problems locating or connecting with your HP all-in-one scanner?

HP suggests that you download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.  While not all types of scanner communication problems are addressed with this software utility, many common problems are resolved. This utility can be used to troubleshoot and in some cases directly fix common connectivity problems experienced with many of hp’s all-in-one devices when used on Windows XP, Vista, Win 7, and Win 8 systems (administrator privileges are necessary in order to run the utility).

Scanning with hp all-in-ones is enabled via Microsoft’s WIA driver (comes with the OS) and, if installed, via twain and the scanning app installed with the product software solution.  The HP Print and Scan Doctor will probe for a number of known problems, report on what’s working and make some selective changes if you permit.

If the HP Print and Scan Doctor detects missing or incompatible software parts, the utility will offer to uninstall the current parts so that a subsequent reinstall process will go smoothly.  The uninstall / reinstall process usually resolves scanning connectivity issues with a minimum of further fuss.

Please Give HP Your Feedback!  If you use any of the HP Diagnostic Utilities, HP would like to hear from you afterward – there’s a survey link built right into each of the utilities and it only takes a minute or two.  Your ideas on how to improve the utilities help HP design future features and enhancements to the utilities.  Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Do you have a networked printer?

If your printer is network connected rather than connected via USB, you may be experiencing network related connectivity issues.  Any network connectivity issues must be addressed first.  The HP Print and Scan Doctor will check for network issues and help you resolve issues that are found.

The HP Print and Scan Doctor runs on Windows XP, Vista, Win 7,and Win 8.  You will need administrator privileges in order to run the utility.
