Unable to activate Scan to printer on my Officejet 6700.

I get the error message, "cannot connect to printer".

Have an HP Touchsmart 520 pc

Windows 7

I am able to print wirelessly.

I have tried:

disabling firewalls

assigning a manual IP address

uninstalling and reinstalling printer software

the HP Scan and print doctor which had me turn my printer off and on and restart my computer

None of these solutions work.

I am also unable to set up the eprint.  HELP!!!!

Re: Unable to activate Scan to printer on my Officejet 6700.

Open Windows explorer and navigate to:

C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Officejet 6700\bin

then try launching scan by double-clicking HPScan.exe

Let me know if you can scan by directly launching this exe.

Re: Unable to activate Scan to printer on my Officejet 6700.

Hi jzack,

Are you able to perform a regular scan from the printer software, or do you get an error message there too?

What type of internet security or firewall software do you have? - Norton McAfee, BitDefender, etc.

Also, what is the model and brand of your router?

Thanks.

Re: Unable to activate Scan to printer on my Officejet 6700.

Also try:

scanning from MS Paint.  I you don't know how to do this I can give you more details.

Try webscan, type the IP address into your browser (If you are using IE you will probably need to prefix the IP with either http:// or https://).  You should see a scan tab.  Click on that tab and see if you can scan that way.

Ok, but how about from MS Paint or from webscan by typing in your printer's IP into a browser?

Also, have you added any security software lately?  What firewall are you running?  You should try to disable your firewall and then try to scan.

I cannot scan from the printer software, either.  I have tried disabling and also uninstalled my firewall.  I am using McAfee.  My Router is Qwest Zyxel  pk5000z.

Thank you.

Tried webscan and get the following error message,

You cannot use this function because it has been disabled. For more information, contact your network administrator or the person who set up the printer.

I am the one who set up the printer and this is a home network.

Thank you

Hi jzack,

Let's make sure your network sharing settings are fine.

  1. Click the Start button and open the Control Panel.
  2. Click on Network and Sharing Center.
  3. Under the “View your active networks” submenu click the Network link under your network name.
  4. Select Home network.
  5. Click Close.

The “Network and Sharing Center” window reappears with your new network location.

 6.   Click Choose homegroup and sharing options.

 7.   Verify that Documents is checked under the “Share libraries and printer” submenu, and then click Change advanced sharing settings.

 8.   Verify the following Sharing and Discovery options are turned on in the Network and Sharing Center:

  • Network Discovery
  • File and Printer Sharing
  • Public Folder Sharing (read and write access)
  • Password Protected Sharing

Click the Save changes button.

Another possible option is to update the firmware on your PK5000z thru the router's EWS or thru their website.
