Windows 7 and scanning crash

i am having problems with my scanning function through solution centre on my F2120 on windows 7 32 bit.

i have read other pages and they say uninstall, reinstall, install patch but nothin has worked yet

when i press the scan a doc or picture buttons, a tiny "HP scanning" window pops up, my printer makes the scan. Once the printer finishes scanning the HP scanning does nothing then an error pops up "4,[(3,42,0)]" and then a windows alert comes up saying "HP Scan Application Resources has stopped responding" twice

I have run the hpiscnapp.exe from the program files like another page says but that is annoying because i have to scan each page of a document in a different pdf file

any solutions yet?

Re: Windows 7 and scanning crash

I'm having the same problem.  I'm using an F2480 AIO with XP Home SP3.  I found a work around that sometimes works and that is to not request a preview of the scan - just send it directly to file.

I've done all the uninstall/reinstall/troubleshoot steps with no solution.

It's very frustrating :smileysad:

Re: Windows 7 and scanning crash

I am getting something simialr with an OfficeJet 7310 connected via Ethernet under Windows 7.  The scan function was working but then started getting the freeze with an extended error message of 4[(3,42,0)].  The scan output window was very small, where it had previously been full-screen, and didn't respond to either maximize or manual resize, but it would minimize.

I have tried the following with no success.

(1) restart

(2) uninstall and reinstall just PhotoSmart 3.5

(3) uninstall and reinstall everything

The install CD for the AIO had a utility that would really remove everything from the PC.  Will that work under Windows 7 and the new software or is there a replacement for it?  I mention this because I suspect that the small window results from some registry setting that is not being removed.

UPDATED

I downloaded the Scan Diagnostic Utiity.  My scanner failed the first test, but then passed after, as instructed, I turned off the device and rescanned.  It then passed, but the scan still didn't work.

I then tried uninstall and reinstall everything but connecting via USB port instead of Ethernet.  Same problem.

Re: Windows 7 and scanning crash

I get the same error 4,[(3,42.0)] with a HP Photosmart B209a-m when I try to scan from a laptop with Windows Vista. I have two other computers with Windows XP and Windows 7 and do not have any problems when using the same printer. any help would be appreciate it. I have done all the steps described in this forum (Uninstall, reinstall, use USB cable, etc)

Re: Windows 7 and scanning crash

I've got the same Problem with Windows 7/64-bit.  The Preview and Scan Control window is undersized and contents aren't all visible.  When the scan completes, it jumps straight to the error "4,[(3,42,0)] before saving the file.  Tried running HP Scanning Diagnostics, and it passes all automated tests.  At the end of the test, it asks if a test scan is desired, answering "yes" and running the scan, the same error occurs without any additional information.  I ended up installing the drivers and software on my XP/32-bit laptop just so I have document scanning capability for my job.  I have downloaded the most recent drivers from HP, but no luck.  I hope someone finds a solution soon!  I'm ready to pull the plug on Windows 7 (which it and Vista are nightmware OS's by themselves) and drop back to XP as long as it's supported.

Re: Windows 7 and scanning crash

Hi Guys.

The 4 3 42 0 problem is caused by the DPI setting you have in windows 7. If you untick the preview scan option the scan completes as normal. I tried removing and reinstalling the applications and still the problems persisted. The issue is with the HP scanning 13 software.

These days alot of people have widescreen monitors with high resolution set. The DPI setting can be used to increase the font/icon size to make it easier to read. I changed the DPI setting in display properties back down to normal from the custom one I had at 110%. Then the previewing window came up full screen ok and no 4 3 42 0 error occured when doing a scan.

Next i changed the DPI back to custom 110%, relogged back in again and tried the scan again. This time the Preview window opened up full screen and no 4 3 42 0 error occured.

Hope this helps you out.
